Let’s be real—Florida summers can be brutal. When the “feels like” temp hits 105°, the beach is crowded, and even the dog doesn’t want to go outside, we turn to indoor adventures with the A/C blasting.
Here’s a list of our go-to indoor activities that keep us learning, engaged, and having fun (without staring at a screen all day). Bonus: Most of these items are available on Amazon and perfect for homeschoolers who love hands-on learning.
🧪 1. STEM Kits & Experiments
Nothing beats a little fizz, slime, or circuitry to make a hot afternoon exciting.👉 Kitchen Chemistry Kit👉 Snap Circuits Jr.👉 Crystal Growing Science Kit
🎨 2. Art Time Without the Mess
We love painting and crafting, but on sweltering days I’m not trying to clean up glitter.👉 Paint-by-Sticker Books (no mess!)👉 Kwik Stix Solid Paints – No Water Needed👉 Dot Markers Activity Book Bundle
📚 3. Cozy Read-Alouds or Audiobooks
Sometimes we turn down the lights, grab a blanket, and dive into a good book. We’ve also been loving audiobook storytime while building LEGO or coloring. Clip-on Reading Light – Great for Forts👉 Kids Headphones for Audiobooks👉 AirFort
🧩 4. Puzzle Time
Charlotte loves puzzles (especially the ones with a twist!). Bonus points if it doubles as learning.👉 Floor Puzzle: U.S. Map👉 Puzzle Globe – Hands-on Geography Fun👉 Magnetic Tangram Puzzle Set
🍳 5. Baking Together
We call this “math disguised as fun.” Measuring, mixing, and a sweet treat at the end? Yes, please.👉 Kid-Sized Baking Set👉 Silicone Muffin Pan – Easy Clean-up👉 Themed Apron Set – Adorable & Functional
🎲 6. Family Board Games
If your A/C is strong enough to withstand the heat and a Monopoly meltdown, game time is always a win.👉 Scout it Out👉 Guess in 10👉 Monopoly Jr
🎶 7. Music & Movement Breaks
Some days, we just need to shake it out—literally. Freeze dance, yoga, or a silly workout video help us reset.👉 Kids Bluetooth Microphone – Karaoke Saves the Day👉 Yoga Dice Kit👉 Mini Indoor Trampoline (Lifesaver!)
Pro Tip: Create an “Indoor Adventure Bin”
I keep a clear bin in the closet filled with rainy/hot day supplies—kits, puzzles, coloring books, small toys. When we need it, it feels like magic.
